Asociación Pro Deficiente Mental de Oaxaca A.C., (The Association in Support of the Mentally Challenged), is a non-profit organization, founded in 1982. The goal then, as now, is to provide the parents of children with intellectual disabilities with educational facilities to help the all-around development of our adolescent children.
Our association received official recognition in 1986, and in 1988 we joined the Confederación Mexicana de Organizaciones a favor de la Persona con Discapacidad Intelectual A.C. (CONFE) (Mexican Confederation of Organizations Supporting Persons with Intellectual Disabilities), whose objective, at a national level, is to monitor and assist in the operation of Mexican associations dedicated to the all-around development and societal integration of the intellectually challenged.
After 30 years of hard work, we now are proud owners of a property of 3,000 m² (32,000 sq. ft.), on which we have constructed a school, a multi-use hall, and kitchen/dining area and a complete micro-industry workshop.
APDMO's mandate is to provide services to all youth and adults with intellectual disabilities in the community. We offer grants and scholarships to economically disadvantaged families.
The association is made up of ten families, and we average a total of 25 students at any given time. In order to stay in operation, we depend on fees paid by the students' parents, as well as your generous support.
